A study of parenting experience for mothers with children of borderline intellectual functioning: using the phenomenological research method of Giorgi
Park Sook-Ja

Abstract
This study aims to determine experimental values for mothers who take care of children with Borderline Intellectual Functioning(BIF); these mothers have difficulties in parenting in daily life. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were carried out targeting six participants, in a period from March 2013 to December 2013. Data analyses were also performed using the 4-steps of study of Giorgi`s technical phenomenology. The results show that consist of eight components and nineteen sub-components. Through this study, mothers of children with BIF experienced ideas of mis-parenting due to a lack of recognizing the situations of their children; it takes such a long time to acknowledge themselves. And perception of children and their perspectives of life changed in gradual steps due to secondary(psychological, social, and economic)stress. This study has an important signification in that this paper was made in a situation in which there are very few studies in Korea about mothers with children of BIF.
